As usual, we will celebrate an international evening during the conference. Please
bring some typical snacks and/or drinks from your country and typical clothing!

Adaptor
You might need an electrical adapter to use your electrical equipment, especially
if you are coming from non-European countries. Macedonia uses the following electrical
standards:

Electricity Voltage: 230 volts/50 hertz, single phase, for appliances
and electrical equipment up to 2,200 watts;
Electric points: Universal plugs type C
Money
Macedonian Currency
Since Macedonia is a non-EU country, its currency is Macedonian Denars, usually
indicated as DEN or MKD.
Many merchants, including most hotels, some restaurants and souvenir shops, may
accept Euros but are not obliged to do so.
The Macedonian denars comes in the following denominations:
- Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10 and 50 Denars.
- Bank notes: 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5000 Denars
Money Exchange
You can change money at banks, as well as in some money exchange-bureaus until late
into the evening. Whereas banks tend to charge about 5% commission, some money-exchange
bureaus don't charge commission at all.
Average Exchange Rates (October 2011):
- 1 € ~ 61.50 MKD
- 1 $ ~ 45.78 MKD
- 1 £ ~ 71.12 MKD
Travel Insurance and Health Issues
Make sure that you have adequate health insurance. Personal travel insurance is
strongly recommended, including coverage of personal accident, sickness, loss or
damage to luggage and personal effects and cancellation charges.
Customs: Duty and Taxes
Tobacco products:
- 200 cigarettes , or
- 50 cigars, or
- 250 grams tobacco for smoking, or
- Proportional mix from different tobacco products
Alcohol:
- Liquor with more than 22% alcohol: 1 liter, or
- Liquor with less than 22% alcohol: 2 liters and 2 liters of wine
