Barcelona is in my heart

Like every other young person who wants to meet new friends from different parts of the world, who wants to enrich the knowledge, but who wants to travel as well, I became a member of the big international IAESTE family. At the beginning I wasn’t expecting that something unforgettable will happen, but the most beautiful things always happen when we least expect.

For me it was Barcelona, city at the north of the Iberian Peninsula that welcomes its visitors with the hospitality of the inhabitants, the warm mediterranean climate and the sound of the traditional guitar. I was working in two companies in Terrassa, small city about 30km from Barcelona. In the mornings I was working in the first company, Ilimit Comunicacions. I had several tasks on different projects. All of the colleagues was working on different segments of the projects and had specific tasks to accomplish, but they were always available to me if I had something to ask. My job was to design web pages with CS3 Dreamweaver, CS3 Photoshop and Cs3 Flash. In the afternoons I was working in the second companies, SnellOptics. My duty there was to implement an Intraweb system for all the employees in the company. For this reason I used PHP and PhpMyAdmin for the data base, and the design was done with HTML. The work in both of the companies was very interesting, I learned a lot of new things, I improved my knowledge even more and I believe that this experience will be very useful for my professional career.

Besides the practical experience, this traineeship provides living in other country, getting to know its culture, language and tradition. Together with the rest of the trainees we had an opportunity to visit most of the cities in Catalunya and Spain, to experience one of the most beautiful beaches at the Mediterranean, to be part of the breathtaking atmosphere at the amazing ‘festas’, to taste the traditional meals ‘patatas bravas’ and ‘paella’. Undoubtedly, this is the city of the sun, the city of the magnificent modernist architecture of Gaudi where the streets full of people and life attract the visitors to make one more step, to discover something new. This is a city with special charm which you will sense from the moment you arrive.
